Wayne has over twelve years of solid commitment to teaching, education, and student development augmented by administrative and managerial experience in corporate human resources and higher education.
Before coming to Sweet Briar College in March of 2001, Wayne served as the Associate Director of the Arts and Sciences Placement Office at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Prior to that, Wayne was an Assistant Director at the University of Kansas's University Career and Employment Services. Wayne also has taught a variety of subjects at the primary, secondary, and collegiate level and has worked for First Virginia Banks, Inc., now BB&T, as the their corporate EEO Administrator. Mr. Stark is a polished presenter, a highly motivational career counselor, and a results oriented collaborative professional with energy, enthusiasm, a commitment to excellence, and a genuine concern for the growth and advancement of college students and the organizations that serve them. Mr. Stark has been recognized as a leader among his peers as he was awarded a commendation for Leadership in 2002 by the Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers. Wayne has also presented well received programs at regional conferences such as the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers and the Southeastern Association of Colleges and Employers.
Most recently in April of 2008, Wayne, along with Kristin Dane Ewing, presented a program at the annual VACE conference. The program entitled "Tapping Potential In Your Own Back Yard: Forging Synergistic Relationships Between Campus And Community" was also presented at the 1st Annual Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE) conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Wayne has also been recognized by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) through their acceptance of his program entitled "From Caboose to Engine: Revitalizing, Empowering, and Shaping Career Services to be a Key Player in Student Affairs and Institutional Decision Making" which was presented at the 50th anniversary National NACE Conference in May of 2006 in Anaheim, California. Wayne subsequently went on to present a national "webinar" based on his program in March of 2007.
Wayne is also engaged substantively with the local community. He serves on the Board of Directors for both Amherst County Department of Social Services and the Center for Adult Learning and Literacy.
Wayne and his wife Karen live on campus in the old dairy farm manager's house with their dog Riley and their cat Sadie. |
