Many Sweet Briar students find that personal volunteerism and engagement in the community—whether on or off campus—is both enjoyable and rewarding. It also provides the opportunity to move beyond the bounds of the College into the larger community.

There are a number of ways to become involved:

Academics/Internships

  • A number of academic courses participate in the PACE (Promoting Academic and Community Engagement) Programmore information is available from Professor Tim Loboschefski or online at http://www.pace.sbc.edu/
  • The Career Services office can help you explore options related to Internships and other ways to combine your interests and passions with the opportunity to help and serve others.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Many clubs and student groups have an interest in providing service to the community and some have this commitment as a requirement of their organization. The Director of Student Involvement and Programs and other College staff maintain contact with a variety of local organizations which have opportunities for civic engagement and volunteerism.

Current student clubs and organizations which have a service and/or civic engagement emphasis include:

  • Amnesty International
  • Habitat for Humanity - SBC Chapter
  • Sweet Service
  • Vixen PAWS

Individual Interest

Students with an individual interest in volunteering can contact College offices to explore options.

The Chaplain's office works with the Sweet Spirits who advertise and market volunteer opportunities through a campus bulletin board, table tents, fliers and email messages. Additionally, a file of volunteer opportunities is maintained in the Chaplain’s office. For more information, contact Adam White, College Chaplain) or Kristie Munn , Secretary to the Chaplain’s office, ext. 6103.
